Hoghton Tower Predator Control

Sir Bernie of Hoghton Tower is very proud of his predator control methods; he has stated as much in the press.

As revealed by ACT, the Hoghton Tower shoot uses bird traps which are illegal in their country of origin because they are considered cruel.

Animal welfare investigators found that a decoy bird was without water on one of the hottest days of the year in breach of general licence when the trap was inspected. Another decoy bird had died in a nearby trap, its water containers were bone dry. Bird caught in traps on the Hoghton Tower estate are killed and simply dumped metres from the traps.

Is this really something to be proud of?

It doesn't seem to have occurred to the Hoghton Tower shoot that if they didn't realise thousands of pheasants into a small area there would be fewer so-called predators.

Traditionally many game birds released for target practise die through illness, road deaths or natural causes. All these dead birds attract the so-called predators to the area!
