Sir Bernard de Hoghton
On the 9th April 2007, Sir Bernard de Hoghton approached animal welfare campaigners and stated that a decision had been taken to stop the Hoghton Tower duck shoots. He was asked to put it in writing; this is what Sir Bernard de Hoghton wrote:
The Hoghton [Tower] shoot can confirm that the (4) four commercial duck shoots will no longer take place the decision was taken at the AGM in 2004, three years ago and is definitely confirmed at their meeting of last Wednesday of last week.
For the record the shoot captaincy has not yet been decided but is not Peter Black as erroneously stated.
Hoghton Shoot
9 April 2007
On the 16 April 2007 Sir Bernie told the Lancashire Evening Post, "The syndicate will no longer be staging any of the four duck shoots."
In September 2007 thousands of ducks were shot. What does that tell you?
